What can we do?

There are many things we can do today to combat climate change and every little bit helps prepare the earth for the future. Decreasing fossil fuel emissions by buying electric or hybrid cars, using public transportation, walking/riding your bike, and carpooling are a few ways to personally decrease your amount of greenhouse gas emissions. On the national level, windmills are an alternative when it comes to energy production. After the wind turbine is built, it produces no greenhouse gases. Wind turbines and the equipment only need to be installed on 5% of land with the other 95% available for farming or ranching. By the year 2020, 10 million American homes would be able to have wind powered energy and prevent 100 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year. Windmills have been around for 1500 years, but only recently wind powered energy has been able to compete with fossil fuels. An average household that used wind power for 25% of its needs would only spend $4/month, and the prices are still dropping (Wind Energy). The main goal of reducing greenhouse gases is by taking responsibility and reducing your own carbon footprint to make this earth better for the next generation.
